Comparison of Old Cascade roof and Gusanito Factory of Worms' Roof
Q: Do you also have the old style lid w/tips printed on it for
summertime use?
A: It makes me very sad to hear the distorted lies told by our old business associates. Many years ago, I was forced to improve the roof because of the extremely poor designed top they have. They are challenged to compete with the exceptionally effective roof that we designed. Their cheap flat sheet of plastic does not work in summer or winter.
Our vented sloped roof works very well summer and winter. Another thing that our customers have started doing is take two chop sticks and prop up one end or side of our roof to give much more ventilation in summer.

Worm Cocoons
Each worm cocoons hold several baby worms. Worms give birth to approximately 10 babies per week. Each week, adult worms will produce 3 to 4 cocoons. A Gusanito Factory of Worms can hold up to 10 pounds of red worms.

Red Worms die in dirt
Red Worms need organic matter to survive. If you donate your red worms to dirt, the red worms will die from hunger. There are no organic matter in dirt. Under grass there is no organic matter but dirt.
If you want to give your red worms to your garden, you must put them in organic matter. Putting red worms in a garden bed with veggies growing in it, is not food to the worms.
Earth worms are a different specie than red composting worms. Earth worms can burrow as deep as 12 feet. Earth worms are loners whereas red worms bunch up together. If you want to get rid of your red worms from your factory of worms, stop feeding them and the worms will end up composting themselves. They will eat each other until there are no more and when that happens, you have the richest worm casting on the market.

Red Worms, Earth Worms and Nightcrawlers
Red Worms aka Eisenia Fetida are the composting worms that produce the largest amount of worm casting. Red worms are much smaller than Earth worms and Nightcrawlers.
Red Worms are fast reproducers. The time it takes for the worm cocoons to hatch depends on the temperature and the conditions. It takes over 3 weeks for the development of the cocoons and after they hatch, it takes about 2 months to reach maturity and start reproducing.
If you mix Red worms with Nightcrawlers, the Red worms will become the dominant specie. The population of your Nightcrawlers will diminish over time if you mix both species. Eventhough Red worms are much smaller than Nightcrawlers, Red worms are tough worms that can tolerate a wide range of moisture conditions, acidity and drastic temperature change.
In nature, the natural habitat of Red worms is in decaying leaves, compost piles and manure piles. Red worms are a different type of earth dwellers. Red worms cannot survive under grass. The purpose of the life of a Red worm is to process organic material into compost.
When you feed your factory of worms, your worm bin, your compost pile, always remember you are creating a habitat for your friends. Worms are our friends.
Keep adding coconut coir to retain moisture and your worms will reproduce even faster.
Share your composting worms with your friends and family. There is a huge network internationally of people like you and me who have befriended an army of little creatures, creatures the earth has gifted us with. It is the army of worms that will make it possible for your great grand children to be born on this planet. Worm casting is the remedy to curb pollution.
My ultimate goal is to teach the Chinese to compost with us. When a guy from Beijing bought a worm factory from us recently, I knew he was the lead to my march. When another guy from Hong Kong bought another factory of worms from us, I laughed in delight.
China is waking up to the pollution mess they are in. I lived and worked in China. I saw with my own eyes many rivers change color every day because of all the factories along the rivers.
Our Gusanito Factory of Worms is a worm factory made from recycled plastic. The instruction manual is also made from recycled paper. Worms are teaching us to recycle. I consider Red worms the ambassadors of the planet we live on.

The many ways to compost with worms with a worm factory
For several years now, I have put to the test over 20 Gusanito Worm Factories. I have harvested the casting from the bottom trays as well as the top trays. I have them stacked up to 8 trays high and others are 2 trays high.
Under severe heat wave or cold, worms will seek the heart of the factory which is where it is moist. Worms can't swim yet they breathe trough water. In the heat of the sun, the top trays will dry out after the worms have composted it and the worms will seek refuge in the bottom trays. When you no longer see worms in the top trays is when you can harvest the casting. My worm factories get up to 9 hours of direct sunshine a day.
If you are after the cream of the crop in vermiculture and you want to harvest the richest worm casting on the market, stop feeding your worms. Let them compost all of it and themselves included. Red worms cannot survive in dirt.
Then start all over and get more worms. The cream of the crop in worm casting will make your head spin when you see what this casting does to your plants. We have enough worms on this planet to keep multiplying them. There is a booming in the worm industry because many decide to become worm growers. No matter how many worms you grow, from one thousand to one million, your effort has an impact on our environment.

Grit
Worms need grit to grind food. Grit is abrasive particles used by worms' gizzards to grind food. You can add a couple hand full of soil to your worm bedding to provide grit to your worm bedding. Egg shells also add grit to the bedding. Grit aids the breaking down of food particles.

Weed Barrier
We are constantly improving our Gusanito Worm Factory. We are currently in negotiation with a manufacturer of a weed barrier fabric. One day, the weed barrier fabric will be included with our Gusanito Worm Factories. Right now, it is up to you to find a fabric that can allow the worm casting liquid to fall into the Liquid Collection Tray. You could also use cheese cloth or even window screens. Most garden centers sell weed barriers by the foot. You need at least 16.5 inches X 16.5 inches of a fabric that will stop the worms or the casting from falling into the Liquid Collection Tray.
If you have Nightcrawlers in your Gusanito Worm Factory, you may want to put a barrier cloth between the roof and the top tray as well. They are called crawlers because they love to crawl.
